Two quakes hit southeast Spain within two hours of each other that injured more people and seriously damaged some buildings on Wednesday.

In a report, there are at least ten individuals who were killed on the calamities that hit southeast Spain. This country was struck by several earthquakes every year, but most of them are too small to be felt. The deadliest among the previous earthquakes hit in 1956 that killed 12 individuals.

According to the report of the United States Geological Survey, the first tremor that struck on Wednesday afternoon had a magnitude of 4.5 and it was chased by another earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1. The Spanish National Geographic Institute stated that the epicenters of the earthquakes were a few kilometer outside the Lorca Town.

The local government of Murcia stated late night on Wednesday that ten individuals had died and 40 residents were hospitalized. There are also thousands of individuals who left their houses due to the danger of more quakes. Moreover, the regional government also stated that several people spent their night in evacuation shelters.

The army sent almost 350 troops to the town of Lorca to aid regional rescue teams to search for possible victims. A lot of individuals were going home from work or doing their evening shopping by the second earthquake that hit the country.

A huge church bell and portion of building’s front fell on the ground a few yards from a reporter from the national television of the country as he was televising live about the damage in the town. The southeast and south part of Spain is specifically weak to earthquakes due to their nearness a big fault under the Mediterranean. The second tremor, which happened around 6:45 p.m. was felt as far as nearly 220 miles away in Madrid, the capital of Spain.

According to a new research by British scientists, mothers who breastfed their babies for at least four months are less possible to have major behavior difficulties later in life.

In addition, scientists said that infants who were breastfed were also less prone to steal, lie or be apprehensive or hyperactive. Researchers from the Universities of York, Essex, Oxford and the University College London used questionnaire to gather information on more than 10,000 babies born between 2000 and 2001.

The researchers found out that 16 percent of formula-fed toddlers had developed behavior difficulties by the age of five years old, compared with six percent of toddlers who had been breastfed. The study was issued in the Archives of Disease in Childhood.

Moreover, scientists stated that one likelihood is that breast milk contains fatty acids that help in the development of the human brain and this can explain the huge difference between formula-fed and breastfed babies. Another probable cause of better behavior may come out from the strong bond between mothers and their infants in breastfeeding.

Maria Quigley from Oxford University said that they simply do not known whether it is due to the ingredients of breast milk, or the close communication with the mom, or whether it is a secondary effect of cheap illness in breastfed infants. However, Quigley also said that it does not start to appear that they can add fewer behavioral difficulties as another possible advantage of breastfeeding.

Other advantages of breastfeeding are well launched. In a call to action to sustain breastfeeding, the U.S. Surgeon General stated that breastfeeding aids protect toddlers against abruptly baby death syndrome and different infections, and that toddlers who are breastfed have are less possible to become obese or to develop asthma.

Reports said Monday that there is a strong possibility that a considerable number of Autism cases remain undiagnosed, following a study conducted in South Korea.

According to the study published in the American Journal of Psychiatry, many more children may be affected by the Autism spectrum, an umbrella term for psychological conditions that are characterized by widespread abnormalities of social interaction and communication, as well as restricted and repetitive behavior.

In a study conducted in South Korea, researchers found that one in every 38 South Korean children has autism, ranging from mild Asperger’s syndrome to severe symptoms of autism. This rate is far higher than the estimate of one in 110 children for the United States by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Geraldine Dawson, chief scientific officer and autism researcher at the University of North Carolina, said that this study suggests that the prevalence of such condition all over the world is indeed underestimated.

It is because most of the studies conducted in the past are typically focused on high-risk populations such as classrooms of special education students and mental health service organizations. In this particular study, on the other hand, researchers also assessed children, ages 7 to 12, who are studying at regular schools. Based on the findings, children under special education and mental health were almost similar to estimates elsewhere in the world.

On the contrary, if the rate found in students under regular schools is added in the population, the prevalence rate doubled. These children tended to have normal intelligence but poor social skills. In conclusion, a relative number of children with this condition are undiagnosed. If this is the case, autism is indeed a significant and global public health concern that must be cured like any other kind of diseases.

Renren, the leading social networking service of China, experienced a jump in its shares by 30 percent on its debut in New York trading.

The company, which is based in Beijing and is unregistered in China, valued its initial public offering (IPO) at $14 a share to increase $743 million, at the peak of its expected range of $12 to $14. The valuation multiple of Renren is over two times of Facebook in private markets.

The IPO is the biggest this 2011 by a technology company of China on the New York Stock Exchange. It is also the preliminary by a social media group, ahead of anticipated proposals this year by others, such as LinkedIn, which stated on Wednesday in a filing that it will list on the New York Stock Exchange.

The value of post-IPO of the company, presently at $7.5 billion, sets it at a higher estimation versus the incomes last year than the estimation of Facebook in the market of private shares, even if it has a much lower amount worth of enterprise.

On the other hand, the figures of Nyppex, a private share-trading market, showed that Facebook was worth $65 billion by institutional shareholders ended on March 31, which was almost 32 times, estimated sales last year worth $2 billion. Renren, at a market cost of $7.5 billion, is worth at almost 100 times in net profits last 2010 of $76.5 million, which slips out refunds to advertisers usually compensated in China.

Nick Einhorn, Renaissance Capital’s analyst, said that individuals who are optimistic on Renren are seeking at where this firm can be in the end. Einhorn, which worked in an IPO advisory and investment group, said that at nearly a tenth of the market value of Facebook, that shows how possible it is Renren can get to the vagues of Facebook.

In a study published in May 1 issue of the journal Sleep, researchers found that extra sleep can increase the chances of growth spurts in infants.

According to the new study, researchers evaluated the daily sleep records of 23 infants who were 12 days old during the start of the investigation. The examiners took into account a total of 5,798 daily sleep records in direct relation to the infant’s growth.

Scientists found that out of the given sample, infants with the amount of more than 24-hour sleeping period increasing at irregular intervals by an average of 4.5 hours per day for two days had an uneven growth bursts. Researchers said that the likelihood of a growth spurt increased by about 43 percent for each additional sleep episode and by 20 percent for each extra hour of sleep.

Michelle Lampl, a professor in the department of anthropology at Emory University in Atlanta and lead author of the study, noted that the findings only show that growth spurt does not only occur during sleep but is also significantly influenced by sleep. She said that there was a significant association between these increases in sleep and growth spurts in body length, which tended to occur within 48 hours of the sleep bursts.

In conclusion, longer sleep corresponds with greater development in body length of a growing infant. Lampl added that the nature of the correlation between increased sleep and growth in infants still remains to be unknown. However, the only clear fact right now is that the secretion of growth hormone increases during sleep. She said that this study is beneficial in helping parents who were concern over the variability and unpredictability of an infant’s sleep patterns.

A recent study showed the relation of obesity and being tall increased the risks of blood clots, particularly in men.

In addition, being obese has long been associated with hazardous blood clots in the deep veins, typically in the legs, and in the lungs, known as pulmonary embolisms. More currently, specialists have discovered a connection with height and cannot systematically give details about it.

According to Dr. Sigrid Braekkan, the University of Tromso’s postdoctoral researcher, the recent study is the preliminary to examine the common effects of height and obesity on the danger of venous clots.

The study is issued in Journal of the American Heart Association, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology and Arteriosclerosis. Dr. Braekkan also said that the danger is higher in obese and tall men, compared with obese and tall women.

He added that in men, both body weight and height are linked with increased danger of venous clots. In women, their height is not a hazardous aspect alone. Still, when combined with obesity, the hazard is greater than for obesity alone.

The mixture of too much weight and height gives in synergistic boost in risk in both women and men. Dr. Braekkan and co-workers discovered that depending on weight, height and gender, the risk of these venous clots for obese and tall individuals was increase for over fivefold than for people with shorter and normal weight.

On the other hand, the American Heart Association approximates that over 275,000 individuals every year are hospitalized in the United States with deep blood clots in the vein or in their lungs.

For the research, investigators assessed information from the Tromso study in Norway. It consists of the surveys of periodic health of adults, ranging from 25 to 97 years old, in the Norwegian town of Tromso.

Nokia executive reported that the company is cutting 300 employees and shifting almost 700 staffs in Accenture, its Bangalore facility to IT management-consulting company.

The world’s biggest phone manufacturer in volume said on Wednesday the details of a revamp of its phone business, including lessening of its worldwide personnel by 7,000 and an agreement to outsource its legacy software of Symbian to Accenture.

The move trails its decision previously this year to change to Microsoft’s software of Windows Phone 7 from its own Symbian operating system. The Finish handset major, which is facing hard competition from Apple, BlackBerry of Research In Motion (RIM) and BlackBerry manufacturer, stated that outsourcing of their OS will help lessen R&D expenses by $1.46 billion every year.

In addition, the move to slash personnel includes dismissing 4,000 personnel and shifting 3,000 employees across in the United States, Britain, India, Finland and China to Accenture. The executives impacted in India were working on the platform of Symbian in Bangalore. This OS is one of the most broadly used for mobile phones, with an installed base of more than 200 million handsets.

Still, the company stated that it will keep 500 engineers at its site in Bangalore, who will work completely on services. The facility holds R&B for both devices and services. Nokia also formed a board, led by Rohit Arya, its head site in Bangalore, to seek for opportunities for engineers who are being dismissed.

The company added that it is willing to spend in entrepreneurial projects of those impacted by job slashes, besides being open to co-funding business projects. Internationally, the company has been losing turf to Google’s Android, Apple’s iPhone and BlackBerry in the segment of smartphones. In rising market like India, its supremacy is being threatened by the manufacturers of Chinese and domestic cellphones.

Crude oil increased in New York to the highest average within two weeks since Africa and Middle East regenerated another aggression that delay supply interruptions.

Futures earned as much as 0.4 percent after the security forces in Syria arrested at least 200 individuals chasing the killing of anti-government activists. According to U.S. Senator John McCain, the insurgents in Libya need more help in the battle against the forces of Muammar Qaddafi.

In addition, Saudi Arabia, owner of the biggest crude reserves in the world, has no intentions to increase the capacity of manufacture of crude oil. John Caiazzo, Acuvest Commodity Brokers’ president in Temecula, California, said that the continuing synchronized actions in Libya to eliminate the forces of Qaddafi, if that is the real reason, is adding to the anxiety and prompting latest trade in crude oil.

Caiazzo also said that other manufacturing areas also experienced chaos, such as Syria and Yemen, where activists are being killed as well. For the delivery in June, crude oil increased as much as $112.70 or 41 cents per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange and in Singapore time, it was $112.63 per barrel.

On April 21, futures progressed 84 cents to $112.29 per barrel, the highest payment since April 8. Costs are increased up to 34 percent last 2010 and the market was closed on April 22 for the holiday of Good Friday. The official stated on a telephone interview that reports that Saudi Arabia my increase the capacity of its production to 15 million barrels per day is not true.

The official also refused to be known by name because he is not allowed to speak in public. Disputes in Yemen showed no indications of ending after the opposition and President Ali Abdullah Saleh agreed to a brokered peace plan by Gulf Cooperation Council.
