Mormon bishop shot dead in California

A bishop of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints in Visalia, California, was shot dead, according to a police report on Monday.

Also, the gunman that shot the bishop was killed in a shootout with the police officers into the scene were the gunman led them.

According to the reports, the gunman, Kenneth James Ward, was casually walking into a service in Visalia California, and on his way to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the gunman asked several people in where the Mormon bishop was.

A person, who failed to give his name, led Ward to the bishop, Clay Sannar, who was in his office completing his scheduled paperwork at that time.

Momentarily, Ward shot Sannar until he died. In a turn of event, Ward quickly escaped from the scene.

Feeling guilty for what he has done, Ward would later call police and blurted out that he was the man who shot the Mormon bishop to death.

In addition, according to Visalia police Chief Colleen Mestas, he gave them directions in detail on where they could find him.

When the police arrived at the scene, police drew shots from Ward. The police took post and cover for strategic positions then they exchanged gunfire with the attacker. Eventually, Ward was killed in an array of bullets. Ward was quickly rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

None of the police officers were injured during the attack, according to Chief Mestas.

Meanwhile, according to the gunman’s brother, Mike Ward, that the motive for shooting the Mormon bishop appears to be a vengeance killing in opposition to the church from “shunning him from hell” 22 years ago.

Consequently, Mike Ward also added that his brother was suffering from a mental sickness and was likely did not know Sannar and was just pouring out at what he signified.
