New vaccine that helps preserve undamaged insulin-producing cells to offer new hope for diabetes patients was discovered.
Researchers from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse wanted to conduct a new research to test the novel vaccine. They are looking for participants on their new study. I
In order to be eligible enough to the test trial, experts are looking for patients who are between ten to 20 years old, and have been diagnosed of diabetes in the past three months.
Doctor Ruth Weinstock, at the Upstate Medical University, is on the track on testing the new vaccine.
Weinstock said that the vaccine is use to preserve the insulin-producing cells that are not yet destroyed in the body at the time the patient was diagnosed with the illness.
The vaccine composed of four shots that contain protein that experts called gad. This kind of protein helps on tricking the immune system to halt the destruction of the remaining significant cells needed by the body to fight the illness.
Furthermore, she added that even the small level or amount of insulin production in the body will help a person to have a better control of his illness. Managing the disease makes it a lot easier, which is a significant way to decrease any complications in the future.
On the early results of the initial testing, experts found that preserving the insulin production using the vaccine help to gain a better glucose control.
One of the first participants of the new study, Ashley Jarvis, who is only 15-year-old and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, said that she was so eager to know and hear her test results. Aside from that she was becoming so excited on the potential of the new vaccine to help eliminates diabetes complications and probably terminate the illness completely.
