Nuggets head coach George Karl accepted ESPY Award
Denver Nuggets’ head coach George Karl received a special honor for his determination in his fight against cancer Wednesday night at the yearly ESPY Awards.
According to CBS 4 Denver, George Karl received the Jimmy V Comeback Award, after missing practices and games at the conclusion of the last NBA season. Karl said that he has undergone five months of cure and he is really coming back.
At present this is the fourth time Karl battled it out against the dreaded disease, which he said in his acceptance speech. He also extends his gratitude and appreciation for the inconceivable support he got from his family. Meanwhile, Coby, Karl’s son is also battled out thyroid cancer twice.
Karl urged for a treatment for cancer that will last a lifetime, not only just mere treatments for the feared disease, as he stated during his speech.
He also added up that sometimes, America might slip on looking through the real scenario on what cancer can really do with patients having the disease. Now is the right time to have an immense collaboration to overcome the disease. However, we need a nationwide action plan to treat cancer, to crush the disease.
According to CBS, the Jimmy V Comeback Award got its name from Jimmy Valvano, former basketball coach of North Carolina State, who died of cancer in 1993.
George Karl was launched as the 19th head coach in Nuggets history on Jan. 27, 2005 and afterward made way to one of the supreme spin-on in the history of NBA.
