U.S. border police discovers huge Mexico drug tunnel

U.S. border cops have discovered a refined tunnel for drug smugglers the size of six football fields that connects Southern California with Mexico, according to authorities on Wednesday.

The tunnel connects Southern California with Mexico and is the place where drug dealers are doing their business. In addition, the tunnel stretched between the warehouses in Otay Mesa, California, and Tijuana, Mexico, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency.

In the operation, agents seized over 25 metric tons of marijuana in relation to the research of both California and Mexico and in the event, they arrested a U.S. citizen alongside his wife.

Before that, the couple was prevented at a Border Patrol checkpoint in Southern California. They are driving a trailer with ten metric tons of marijuana. Moreover, prior to that, the truck had seen leaving the warehouse that agents have held under surveillance.

Furthermore, John Morton, director of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, said that the case was not about a husband and wife operation. It is about the drug cartels that are plaguing Mexico.

Mexico was in the middle of a war that has taken away the lives of over 30,000 people in the south of the border ever since December 2006. In this year, President Felipe Calderon commenced an onslaught against influential drug cartels.

The tunnel was developed to prevent Mexican cartels from getting busted from the tight security at all ports of entry. Almost all of them are associated on all the cities in the Mexico border and alongside California and Arizona.

Also, the investigators said that the tunnel is as high as the waist and have rails and pulleys the they believe was utilized to transfer drugs under the border with the use of a cart. The tunnel is in operation for less than a month.
