Youth advocates to girl on girl violence: “It’s Alarming”

We are losing young girls to aggression according to youth advocates. This came in just hours after 19-year-old Leah Johnson was accused in association with the death of Kalynn Strozier.
According to reports, Johnson stabbed the 16-year-old girl Tuesday after Strozier confronted her over an continuing conflict between them.
Youth advocate are facing more problems than ever because of increased fighting, violence and aggression among young women in Rochester according to Elain Spaull, head of the Center for Youth.
It is a very alarming trend to see more and more group of girls fighting. There is a rise of number of girls in teen court. However, Spaull ready a program for long term suspension.
Drianna Iglus, a fifteen-year-old girl said, “I think it’s really over jealousy and hatred among other gangs and just violence that is going on in the community.”
Eighteen-year-old Jaquan Scott added up, “There are a lot of problems going on with people. A lot of gossip, a lot of he say she say — that’s where a lot of fights come from mainly and MySpace too, that’s how a lot of girl fights start.”
Mother of Strozier says that the answer is simple and she is seeking help from the community. Natasha Holmes said, “If you have problem with somebody, just walk away. Sometimes the best thing you can do is turn your back and walk away. Some people call you a coward because you don’t face it up front and deal with it. I simply call it being the better man or being the better woman.”
Spaull says that there is help available for the teens; take for example, the Center for Youth has a program called “Love and Forgiveness, which teaches young women on how to cope up with the hurts and discontentment of relationship.
